Overview

Study the fully-funded Foundations at Victoria University, to reach your goal of studying a higher education undergraduate or diploma course.

In this course, you'll be introduced to a broad range of study skills needed to complete further study.

You'll learn valuable skills such as:

how to plan, research, write and present assignments to meet university standards
how to evaluate, analyse, and interpret complex data/text in order to form arguments and reach a conclusion
better ways to use technology to complete your coursework.

You will also gain a better sense of what course or career you'd like to pursue next, develop confidence in your ability to continue tertiary education and become familiar with VU's support services.

: On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Operate with an understanding of the VU University environment, expectations, academic conventions and assessment methods, applying academic literacies and discipline-specific knowledge both independently and in groups.
Apply cognitive skills to understand, analyse, synthesise and critically evaluate information, while using information skills to effectively find, retrieve and analyse information for use in academic contexts.
Demonstrate effective communication practices that foster the exchange of knowledge and ideas within an academic context
Employ academic literacy skills to effectively communicate ideas in writing and conduct critical analysis.
Use contemporary digital and learning technologies effectively to succeed in a university environment.

When assessing your application, we consider your educational achievements and work experience, as well as your skills and personal attributes (where relevant).

Applicants for this course will need to meet the entry criteria outlined below. If you don’t meet the entry criteria, you may be able to gain entry by first completing a related course or unit(s). We call this a ‘pathway’.

You may also be eligible for course ‘credits’, where you are granted a unit or units towards your qualification for equivalent previous study or work experience, so you can graduate sooner.

Personal statement

When you apply, you'll need to include a short personal statement (500 words). Here are some possible questions for you to consider when writing your statement:

What are your career goals?
Which VU undergraduate degree or higher education diploma would you like to pursue after completing the foundations course?
Have there been any obstacles or hardships that have impacted on your learning experiences to date?
If you are returning to study, have you completed any work experience that complements your career goals?

This course is fully government funded, and you will not incur a debt for tuition fees. You will need to pay non-tuition fees, including the annual student services and amenities fee (SSAF).
